SPACE
Location of the Site is in a fairly remote region of Kolhapur city.
Site is fairly large having 38000 sq.feet area. Site as big as this usually has multiple road access but this site had only 1 access that too the road was only 9 meter wide.
The main challenge was to consume the entire FSI and provide the developer enough data and valid points to invest and develop a built environment with such low connectivity.
We had to ensure we build affordable homes.
NEED
As the growing demand for residential spaces promoted by migration of people from villages around the city created a demand to create affordable homes in the area so that client wanted a mix of both - Apartment & Row Houses.
Need was to create compact affordable Row Homes maintaining air & light ventilation in all homes.
Main challenge here was following vastu in every single home as the clients were very strict on this part. We could not even mirror any element of one house to another which created 26 completely identical houses.
RESULT
Nestled within a small and slender site of each house measuring 6 meters by 18 meters.
The vision for these houses was to create a space that not only stood out within its locality but also contributed to the cityscape. The aim was to craft a dwelling that felt intimately connected to the family's life while prioritizing thoughtful design over expansive square footage.
The core concept driving these houses was to punctuate the house with staggered cut-outs and strategically placed skylights. Despite the modest footprint, these design elements breathe life into the home, infusing it with light, air, and a sense of openness.
Each cut-out and skylight serve dual purpose, not just illuminating the space but also creating moments of interaction. Whether it's a shared glance from one floor to another or a beam of sunlight gently streaming into a common area, these architectural features forge bonds within the home and with the neighbours.
